Performed at the first Mostly Medieval Theatre Festival in 2017, "Cosmic Dance" is a music and dance performance based on the life and music of the twelfth-century mystic and visionary Hildegard of Bingen, combining ancient music with contemporary dance and interpreting Hildegard’s vision for a new age. This piece gave me a wonderful opportunity to combine several of my interests: medieval women's writing, early music, and dance. Although I was not trying to "reconstruct" any kind of historical performance, I did take inspiration from European folk dances and medieval dance traditions such as carols (round dances with figures) for some parts of this piece.
